Vetericyn - Terrific for Skin!

Vetericyn Spray

Vetericyn spray is over the counter and can really help your pet with recurring and/or mild skin problems. It is great for minor skin infections, irritations, and for treating small, beginning hot spots. It can be used as often as 3 or 4 times per day, will not harm your pet's skin, and will not harm your pet if they lick it off. It is safe to use on the face, around the mouth, and around the ears (see comments below about applying it). Avoid getting it into the eyes. However, contact time is important and it needs to sit on the skin for at least 15 minutes so don't let your pet lick it right off! If you are using it on a dog, apply the spray and then take your dog for a walk.

Hotspots are acute, serious skin infections that spread very rapidly - one day there can be a red and itchy spot the size of a nickel and 24 hours later it can be the size of a dinner plate! Hotspots are very itchy, painful, and gooey. if you can get a good look at the skin, it is usually bright red or even yellow, with a sticky discharge glueing the hair together. If your dog might have one of these, please call us immediately (if it is after hours, go to the emergency clinic). Hotspots can be helped with Vetericyn spray but there is a lot more treatment that usually needs to be done as well.

Some pets (cats especially) don't like the sprayer. Or you may need to treat on the face, close to an ear, or under the tail (very sensitive areas). For these pets and/or these areas, soak a cotton ball with the Vetericyn and then gently dab it onto the area until it is soaked to the skin. Do not rub it in.
