Pets with dry, flaky skin need supplements. These are available via special daily oral vitamins, through prescription foods, and with Dermoscent (gentle, concentrated topical solution applied weekly to the skin). These products take 40 to 60 days to return skin and haircoat to normal but they can make your cat or dog feel and look so much better! Unless your pet only has dry skin in the winter months, these are maintenance supplements and need to be given daily (oral vitamins and foods) or weekly to monthly (Dermoscent). Special grooming techniques and shampoos can help, too.
