Madison and Baxter

These are our favorite pictures of our mascot Madison and her new brother Baxter

Madison & Baxter, wading and drinking

On a hike in WV, we always bring plenty of water for us and for the dogs, but sometimes they prefer the 'au natural' mode. Then they get a bath when we get home...

Baxter in the sun

This is one of Baxter's favorite poses - we call it doing the "Ferdinand". Remember the child's story about Ferdinand the bull, who just wanted to admire the pretty flowers? That's what Baxter likes to do. He'll sit in the sun and just look around, sometimes for long periods of time...

At Spruce Knob, on vacation

It was in the upper 30's or low 40's and very windy so we all had winter gear on (even the dogs)!

Baxter in the Bushes

In the undergrowth on his first invasive species survey hike. He wasn't sure about this idea of hiking where there was no marked (or even visible) trail, but Madison is an old pro (this was her 10th invasive species hike, and her 4th of this type) and she showed him what to do.

This way?

Madison & Baxter, finding the way back

Dave and I volunteer at the Canaan Valley Wildlife Refuge in WV. We were doing an invasive species survey on one of the not-in-use trails. And it was REALLY not in use! We were slogging our way through hip-deep undergrowth and going over downed trees, too. It was fun but tiring. We found no invasive plant species, which was good. Sometimes, Madison and Baxter had to find a way for us to go - here thay are saying "This way, I think!".

We are ready for a car ride!

Madison & Baxter, heading off to the car

On the way to a terrific hike, they are anxious and eager. Afterwards, they fell sound asleep within minutes of getting into their car crates!

Taking care of each other

Baxter's still a little sleepy, and wanted to snooze in the sun. Madison kept him company for a little while!

Madison & Baxter do Burke Lake

Today was Baxter's first time hiking around Burke Lake (Madison has been there before). He did great with the 4.5 mile hike and still had LOTS of energy left at the end. Just goes to show you how much exercise a puppy needs, even one with 3 inch legs.

Waiting for Dad

Ar Belle Haven Park in Alexandria, waiting for Dad to return from Mt. Vernon (a 15.5 mile bike ride). Mom and Baxter and I walked all the way around Dyke Marsh Wildlife preserve, all up and down Belle Haven Park, and we also watched the people, too. It was fun, but I worried about Dad. I'm a Daddy's girl and I'm happiest when he's right here with me!

Madison and Baxter, ready set go!

They are both always raring to go at the start of a hike...

Baxter's first experience with river water - he was not sure that water was supposed to move like that!
