Happy Birthday to me...

February 21st was my birthday, and I got lovely flowers, chocolates, a funny card from my staff, and a rich Tiramisu cake.  It was great!  Here's the cake.

Weekend Fun!

This past weekend my mom and I went to Merrifield Nursery (on route 29), and had a great time.  Mom pushed the big shopping cart while I ran alongside (inside the greenhouse I rode in the cart). It was fun! Everybody wanted to meet me and I got lots of treats. Mom picked out some new plants and new pots for the hospital. Then we went to Wylie Wagg pet store, shopping for me, yippee! I met a cute little dachshund who's mom told my mom about the local 'meetup dachshund' group, and then we met a lot of nice greyhounds and a calm shepard, too. I got more treats and got to meet all kinds of

Madison as a baby

My mom and dad are talking about getting another dog. I do not know about this. I have my choice of laps now. What will happen if there is only one lap available? I sleep under the covers with mom and dad. Will another dog want my favorite spots? They tell me I'll get to like a buddy. I've never had one and am not sure I want one. Mom says I don't get a vote on this, but they'll pick another dog as carefully as they picked me. I guess that's good? I'll let you know...

Superbowl Sunday hike

We started behind Poplar Tree Elementary School, hiked over to Walney Pond, and then returned the same way. It was a few miles and cold when we stopped, but as long as we kept moving I was fine. And happy! I love longer hikes and this one was cool, lots of good smells, winding trails, only a little up and down but lots to see and do. We were on the Rocky Run Trail.

We walked ALL the way around the Tidal Basin!

Last weekend we went to Washington D.C. to see the Martin Luther King Memorial. We walked all the way around the Tidal Basin and had a terrific time. I was fascinated by the drop-off to the water and mom kept having to tug me away from the steep edge. Dad said he would not go in the water to rescue me if I fell in, but I think he would. He loves me! Nonetheless, mom made sure I did not have any opportunity to go over. It was fun! There was this one lone mallard duck who swam back and forth quacking and quacking.

New Year's Weekend at Great Falls

We always walk around the neighborhood, so lately mom and dad have been taking me other places on weekends. Here we are at Great Falls - it was really fun. Lots of people, lots of dogs, fun trails. We only hiked a mile or so, but had a great time.

Posing at the Stone Bridge

Mom and Dad and I had a lovely hike a few weeks ago at the Stone Bridge in Manassas Battlefield Park. They have a cool boardwalk (a little narrow for passing other dogs, though). I love this hike! Mom has been under the weather so we are catching up on the past month or two now, so read on!

I was so sick!

I’d like to give a quick thank you to everyone for their understanding, compassion, and patience when I got very suddenly ill on Friday, December 23rd (I had to be taken to the ER). Appointments had to be rescheduled for the entire day, one client had to be sent home without his cat even being seen, and everything was a bit of a scramble.

I was diagnosed with Vertigo (when dogs and cats get this we call it Vestibular Syndrome), a disturbance of the inner ear. It causes acute episodes of dizziness and nausea which tend to come and go rapidly (or come and stay like mine did). My treatment in the
