We Give Tours

Did you know that we give hospital tours? School classes, scout troops, adults, and home-schooled families or groups are welcome to arrange a tour. Tours take 20 to 30 minutes and include age-specific information and demonstrations, from trimming toenails to donning x-ray protective equipment to practicing the correct way to handle surgical tools to scanning pets for microchips (and lots more).

More preparation for Baxter!

So, we are almost ready for our new puppy, Baxter. We'll be picking him up on May 12th, and we can't wait. We have crate, collar, leash, playpen, ID tag, and 2 puppy toys for him, plus a box of piddle pads. We have a cute warm little puppy coat for cold and/or wet weather. Before he is 3 months old he'll be going with us to West Virginia (in the mountains) and also to Michigan, so he'll need a coat. His big sister Madison hates cold and/or wet weather so she has a light weight waterproof/wind proof jacket AND a heavy, really warm, water and wind resistant coat.

Shopping for Baxter

Wow it has been a long time since we shopped for a puppy. We have a playpen, a crate, and a puppy pen from previous youngsters, and they will all work for Baxter. We also have an extra case of piddle pads and an extra puppy leash.  Right now I am shopping for his first collar and his own set of dishes.  I will give him his microchip pretty much right away, but he'll also have an ID tag with our phone number on it.  I'm sure there are lots of other things that we will think of.  Most of all, though, we are preparing our household for a new baby member of the family.

Oh No! A baby brother?

This is Baxter. He's going to come live with us next month. Mom and dad tell me I'll like him but I'm not so sure. I'll have to share! He is also a shorthaired dachshund, but he's a boy. I don't really know any boy dogs. He's cream and white, and sorta cute, don't you think?

Happy Anniversary to us!

My mom and dad  tell me that today is the 19th anniversary of the opening of Greenbriar Animal Hospital!  Wow! That is pretty cool.

Dave and Madison at Sand Run Lake Trail

It's May 17th and I have my green on (a green collar and a green leash, too). Dave has his green shirt on, and mom (taking the photo) has a blue and green shirt.  We barely saw anybody else today as we were hiking in the mountains in WV but we made sure to dress appropriately, anyway. Hope you had a great St. Paddy's Day!

Rabies Vaccinations for Your Pets

We often get asked why indoor-only cats need Rabies vaccines, as they are not around other animals. The answer is two-fold and simple. First, Fairfax County law requires Rabies vaccines for all cats and dogs, and you can get in trouble with Animal Control (aka the Police) if your cat (or dog) is not current on it's Rabies vaccines.
