Drug Shortages

Due to recent and more frequent drug shortages (currently, of Deramaxx, prednisone tablets, and all sizes of thyroid medications for dogs), we have changed our prescription refill policy for all prescription medications except for Heartgard.

Most years, I don’t make specific New Year’s resolutions. When I do make them, sometimes the resolutions get accomplished, and sometimes they don’t. Nebulous resolutions like “lose weight”, or “organize the closets” never seem to happen.

Holiday Hazards

Tis the holiday season – beware!

Food is an integral part of our holiday celebrating for most people in northern Virginia. However, many holiday foods for people are dangerous or even poisonous for pets. Alcohol, chocolate, macadamia nuts, grapes and raisins, and any food with xylitol are all outright poisonous to dogs.

Does your dog dance?

Some dogs “dance” on their back legs (like a circus dog), and even walk around like that sometimes. Others assume a begging position (with back legs supporting all of the dog’s weight). If done frequently or for prolonged periods of time, these actions can be very damaging to your dog’s knees.
